I would argue, yes, it is a sin to not take a day of rest if I am reading my Bible correctly and I think that I am. If we don't take a day off to the Lord, it is a form of "missing the mark." However, we should balance neglecting to observe it as a sin with what Jesus said about it in the Gospels. He said that that man was not made for the Sabbath, but Sabbath for man. I think that means that a day of rest is meant to serve for our benefit. It's not to be a day where we try to make sure that we are observing it so much that we begin to serve the day itself and miss the point. In fine, I would say that it is a sin to not observe it, but if my friends horse falls in a ditch, or my own for that matter, it's ok to "work."

Thsnks for the thoughts Sean. I never connected our salvation experience (2 Cor. 5:17) with how God created the universe out of nothing in Genesis 1.

Great thoughts Sean. I too have wondered why ministry students must pay 1,000's of dollars in order to learn how to be a church leader. No where in Scripture do we see the word Seminary. Seminary is a concept that we humans have come up with as an organized way to teach aspiring church leaders. However, I would agree with Lee above that we see the pattern of discipleship in the Scriptures as a way to train upcoming leaders (ex. 1 Tim, 2 Tim, Titus). Jesus himself did not hold a degree. Paul must have been pretty educated from being a Pharisee, but did not tell Timothy and Titus that they had to go to school first. I think what your talking about needs to be talked about more. Moody Bible Institute provides "free" funding for ministry students that they receive from donations. Ideas are out there. Great post. Thanks. You are enjoyable to read.

@Lee Jackson Insightful! I love your comprehensive knowledge of Scripture and your ability to connect it to real life. I’ve considered tackling this for quite a while–just waiting for the right platform and right people around me.

There is a better way--God's way. Elijah mentored Elisha and he became greater than his teacher. Jesus lived with his disciples, taught them how, sent them to do ministry, listened with gratitude to their victory stories, showed them more, and finally released them to establish the Church in His name. John Mark and Timothy followed the same pattern in the second generation of the Church.

Now we send our called ones away, often into the bondage of debt or unsound teaching, We do not pour our lives into them. We do not stand aside to allow them room to serve. We hold onto power and authority as if it were our own and not the property of King Jesus, And we wonder why we lose our young adults.

God's ways are hard, but simple, and give life and freedom. Man's ways are easier, but complicated, and result in pain and bondage.

It's time to break the cycle. Now. Revolt from doing God's mission in man's manner.

Sean, perhaps God has called you to be a Revolutionary, We need His Kingdom.

A man's gift makes room for him...(Proverbs 18) To the one who seeks God--really seeks Him--it is as if the Spirit given gift has a life of its own. It will be expressed. It will honor God. It will effect others. It will change the one who carries it.

Fantastic! Amen and Amen. I'm right with you on this, Brother! We need to celebrate the times we overcome sin and temptation, too. We often beat ourselves up for falling short, but we act like it's no big deal when we have victory over things. I believe the Holy Spirit rejoices in those times and wants us to rejoice with Him.!
